Children of Midian Guild Rules

The Children of Midian is a small, friendly Horde guild on the Lothar server. We are a casual, friendly raiding guild. We are a group of individuals whose primary focus is enjoying each others company in our free time while doing what we can to advance our characters in the game.

That being said – If your focus on playing World of Warcraft is to get to “end game” as fast as you can so that you can get all of the best loot and raid every night of the week, this is not the guild for you. You will, ultimately, be unhappy with this guild and your unhappiness will be transferred to those around you.

While in an ideal world one would hope that a group of people could interact in this fashion without a need for rules, experience has proven time and time again that this is not the case. As a result, the following is a code of conduct that we hope will prevent any major conflicts in the course of our time together.

Communication

  • The “Message of the Day” feature in game is a great way to communicate brief tidbits of information to anyone who logs in to the game, but it’s far from perfect. If a player has a large number of mods installed or takes too long to log into game due to lag it is easily missed. As a result, it is mandatory that all players register on the Children of Midian web site. While we understand that it can be a nuisance to log into a forum on a regular basis, it really can be an invaluable resource if used properly.
  • There will be occasional in-game guild meetings where all of the officers will be available to discuss issues, take suggestions, and field questions. If you have any questions or suggestions in the interim, please feel free to use the forums to find your answers.
  • If you have an issue with another member of the guild or with a guild policy, it should be brought to the attention of an officer immediately using the tell system or in game mail.
  • Positive comments and suggestions are welcome. Complaints and bellyaching are not. If you see a way in which the guild can improve, we welcome your opinions, but when doing so remember the old adage – “If you can’t say something nice, say nothing at all.”
  • Please remember that there are minors in the guild and try to be aware of that fact in your communications. This is not a children’s guild, and the minors that are in it have been made aware of that fact, it would still be best if the few kids that play with us don’t find out about the latest kink fetish from their fellow guildies.

Loot

  • We are a need before greed guild. If something drops that you'd like for an alternate toon, but someone in the group can use it on their grouped toon, you should not be rolling for said item. If you need money, ask guildmates for help. Don't be a greedy pig with loot, it's the best way to make sure nobody groups with you.
  • “Ninja Looting” in any form will not be tolerated. If you're going to be the group looter, it should be agreed upon in advance. Quality non-soulbound items should be rolled for or evenly dispersed at the end of the event. We try to encourage a guild setting where you don't have to worry about looting, because you know if anything good comes up you'll be told. Sneaking loot or not letting others get their fair share is for children.
  • Looting a “Bind When Picked Up“ item you cannot use when someone else in the group could is not acceptable. All “Binds when Picked Up“ loot items should always be rolled on and/or agreed upon before picking up. Excuses will not be listened to. A window pops up asking you to confirm acceptance of the bound item, so any excuse can only confirm your incompetence.
  • When rolling on a BOP item, you may only roll for yourself. You may not use your winning roll to allow a fellow party member to loot a BOP item. This behavior is not permissible unless agreed upon by the entire group (usually due to extreme circumstances). Basically, if it's BOP: you roll for yourself or you pass.
  • In the event of a BOP item that is going to “rot” (nobody in the party wants or can use it as an upgrade), the fate of the item will be decided by a /random 100. The winner of the roll can either choose to loot the item and sell it for vendor trash, ask a disenchanter in the party to break the item so it can be sold for materials, or donate the disenchanted materials to a guild enchanter.

Loot: Set Pieces

Although they are not designated as such on the item itself, it is commonly accepted that certain set pieces were designed for certain classes. To that end, if a BOP set piece drops that is designed for a certain class and that class is on the raid they will get first dibs on the item. Even if they have already used their “need” roll for the raid. If there is more than one player of that class on the raid the “one need roll per run” rule will be reviewed and a player who has not received any upgrades will be offered the item first. In the case of all players being on equal footing in the loot distribution of the night, the item will be distributed by seniority (length of time at endgame, number of raids gone on to get that item, etc…). If there is no obvious indicator of seniority, the fate of the item will be decided by /random. On the off chance that I haven’t covered some sort of scenario that could arise over a BOP set item, I’ll go drown myself.

  • Dungeon 1 Classes

    • Dreadmist – Warlock
    • Magisters – Mage
    • Elements – Shaman
    • Shadowcraft – Rogue
    • Valor – Warrior
    • Lightforge – Paladin
    • Wildheart – Druid
    • Devout – Priest
    • Beaststalker – Hunter

  • Dungeon 3 Classes

    • Oblivion Rainment – Warlock
    • Incanter's Regalia – Mage
    • Tidefury Armor – Shaman
    • Assassination Armor – Rogue
    • Bold Armor – Warrior
    • Hallowed Rainment – Priest
    • Moonglade Rainment – Druid
    • Beast Lord Armor – Hunter
    • Righteous Armor – Paladin

BOE set pieces that drop will follow the same rules as above. If no players of the class in question are in the party the Class Officer (see below) will decide who will be offered the item. If no players in the class need the item, the original members of the raid will be offered the chance to /random and decide its fate.

Loot that drops in raid situations will be distributed using the Suicide Kings method of loot distribution. Details on this loot distribution system can be found in the Guild Announcements section of the forum.

Raids

  • If an event begins at a scheduled time, that means you are at the instance and ready to zone in at that time - not on another character or just logging in and expecting a summon.
  • Players who are more than 15 minutes late to a run will be replaced unless previous arrangements have been made and agreed upon by the rest of the party. If after 30 minutes a replacement has not been found the run will be canceled.
  • A player who is late or absent from a raid three (3) times without adequate explanation or warning will be removed from the raid scheduling process or given low priority in regards to scheduling.
  • Raid Nights are Friday, Sunday and Monday nights. Raid schedules are posted by Wednesday for the upcoming weekend. Individual players are responsible for letting guild leadership know what their availability if they wish to be on the schedule.

Alts

  • Players may have as many alts in the guild as the character creation process allows them. In the highly unlikely event we get to a point that the guild has reached maximum capacity we will modify this rule. We do ask, however, that you designate one character as your Main character for the purposes of resource distribution.
  • If resources are offered in guild that one of your alts could use, please defer said resources to a main character if they could benefit another. If you are asking for something for an alt, make it clear that you are doing so.
  • If you want to offer something in guild, but only want to part with it if a main character can use it, please say so before making the offer.
  • Players are asked to remember that in order for us to see any kind of raid progress it is important for our characters to gear up as best we can at the level of raids we have available to us. Please keep this in mind when considering an upgrade and always defer to a main character if you are on an alt.

Invites

We are not an “open” invite guild, but if you have a friend or have met a person who you think would fit with our play style you are more than welcome to sponsor said person. If you sponsor a new member to the guild, however, please keep in mind that your sponsorship will be noted by the officers and that any behavior issues from that person could reflect on you. Sponsor wisely…YOU are responsible for those you bring to the guild.

  • Minors will not be permitted in the guild unless they are under the direct supervision of one of the adult members, who will agree to take full responsibility for monitoring the actions of that minor.

New Members

  • New players will retain the rank of Initiate for the first 30 days they spend in the guild. During that time, they will be required to register on the guild forums. At the end of this 30 day probationary period, the player will be moved to full member status (unless there are extenuating circumstances that warrant another course of action). At any point during this probationary period, the officers may remove the new player if we determine that CoM is not a place that matches their play style.
  • Players who have not registered on the forums after 30 days will retain their Initiate status until they do so. Players who have not registered on the forums after 90 days of joining the guild will be removed from the guild.
  • Guild Members may only sponsor one Initiate at a time. Once a player you have sponsored moves from Initiate to Member you are free to support another new member to the guild.
  • Initiates may not sponsor new players to the guild until they move to full Member status.

Character Names

  • Players are expected to be familiar with and honor the World of Warcraft Naming Policy when selecting their character names. Characters with names that have made it past the Blizzard censors but violate the spirit of this naming policy will not be permitted to join the guild. Please remember that this is a family guild, and that there are minors who are part of that family, so name your characters accordingly.
  • Sexually suggestive, crude, vulgar or offensive character names will not be permitted in guild. While we are not a high profile guild, we have a decent reputation on Lothar as having members with class. We do not wish to tarnish that by having someone with a name like "Ihumpsheep" in our guild.

Characters in Multiple Guilds

Generally speaking, membership in multiple guilds is discouraged. Members of this guild receive the benefit of the guild's time, effort, and resources. We do not feel it unreasonable to expect that the generosity our members show each other will return to the guild in some form or another, whether that be crafting; assistance of lower-level players; as a participant in our higher-level pursuits; or some other benefit not mentioned here. We are not a "feeder" guild and take a dim view of anyone who uses our generosity to leverage themselves into the raiding game.

Despite the above, exceptions have been made in the past and will likely be made in the future. These exceptions are decided on a case-by-case basis by the guild leadership; feel free to contact them with any questions or concerns you may have.

We expect anyone who maintains membership in guilds other than The Children of Midian to exercise discretion and maturity with that privilege. This includes (but is not limited to :

  • Discussing guild business outside the guild.
  • Disparaging the guild or its members to those outside the guild.
  • Cross-posting content from guild chat or the forums.

The guild leadership reserves its usual rememedies to deal with any abuse or violation of the above.

Ventrilo

Our guild uses Ventrilo for VOIP communication during raids and groups. Information on how to connect to our Ventrilo server can be found in the Official Guild Announcements forum.

  • NOTE: Guests may be permitted to use our server on an “as needed” basis, and will be given temporary access if such a situation occurs.

Purchasing gold and/or power leveling service

Most of us are familiar with the current rash of account hacks and keylogging scams which have plagued the WoW community for the past few months. Most of us know someone personally who has been a victim of these scams.

These thefts are being driven (if not actually perpetrated) by organizations that sell Warcraft Gold for real-world currency in an effort to satisfy a demand. We do not support any organization that ignores the World of Warcraft Terms of Service and worse, does not have any qualms about compromising players' accounts (and the time and effort those players spent on them) in order to further their own profits.

This guild was founded on community, proficiency, and integrity. If you're purchasing Gold or paying a service to level your character, you've missed some key points in our philosophy. Having a CL60 character who doesn't know the first thing about his or her class is a detriment to the guild, not an asset.

Put simply, those engaging in either of the above practices are engaging in behaviors we will not tolerate (and actively deride). Anyone who feels gold-buying or power-leveling is justified is obviously in the wrong place, and we'll be happy to start their search for end-game fulfillment by promptly removing them from our midst.

Purchased Characters, Selling your guilded character(s)

Again, these practices run counter to the philosophy of this guild and will not be tolerated. A purchased character is no better than one that's been power-leveled...see above for the rationale.

Selling a character/account whom other members of this guild have spent their time assisting is nothing short of insulting and mercenary. In the highly unlikely event this ever occurs, the character(s) will be removed from the guild and the original owner can consider that particular bridge burnt.

Botting

Using a bot or bot-like script/program is a violation of the Terms of Service. It also reflects very poorly on the guild tag of the person botting. We pride ourselves on skill and gamesmanship here -- anyone using one of these can do so without our tag over their head.

Hacking and Exploits

See above. Whether it's teleporting on a character that does not have that explicit ability; mining Thorium at CL5; item duplication; or using terrain bugs to the disadvantage of other players, this behavior will not be tolerated in this guild. If an exploit is found, we would hope our members would be honest enough to report the bug so that Blizzard can patch it for the community's benefit.

Disciplinary Actions

If there's a problem with your behavior as a guild member, you will be contacted (via a private tell) by an officer. Unless you've really screwed up, your attention will be drawn to the deficient conduct and you will given an opportunity to correct it. Continued carrying on, after warning, is grounds for being booted.

In the case of a dispute between two or more members, one or more officers may ask the members to join them in teamspeak or a game party, if teamspeak is not available. The officer(s) may choose to speak with the members separately or together in an attempt to resolve a dispute. If a dispute involves an officer, another officer, who does not live in the same household as the officer in the dispute may mediate/lead the conflict discussion as long as both parties are satisfied that the intervening officer can act neutrally.
